Important: “Customers can pay from anywhere” is not the same as “a business can open a Stripe account from anywhere.” Account onboarding is tied to the business’s actual legal location and verification details. Re-check the official list immediately before applying.
What Stripe’s official availability page says
Stripe’s global availability page lists the countries and regions in which its services are supported. The current page also uses distinct labels for certain markets. Those labels should not be flattened into a simple yes/no list.
| Label shown by Stripe | How to interpret it | Next step |
|---|---|---|
| Country listed directly | A business in that listed country may be able to onboard, subject to the local product, business type and verification rules. | Open the country-specific signup and verification docs. |
| Preview | The global page marks India and Indonesia as Preview. Do not assume the ordinary public onboarding flow is open to every applicant. | Confirm the current preview or invite process with Stripe. |
| Extended network | Côte d’Ivoire, Ghana, Kenya, Nigeria and South Africa are labelled Extended network and link to Paystack from Stripe’s global page. This is not identical to a standard Stripe dashboard country entry. | Review Paystack’s local product terms and onboarding rules for your market. |
For the canonical, currently maintained country list, use Stripe global availability rather than relying on a copied list inside a third-party article.
Which countries are listed directly?
At the time of this check, the Stripe page directly listed: Australia, Austria, Belgium, Brazil, Bulgaria, Canada, Croatia, Cyprus, Czech Republic, Denmark, Estonia, Finland, France, Germany, Gibraltar, Greece, Hong Kong, Hungary, Ireland, Italy, Japan, Latvia, Liechtenstein, Lithuania, Luxembourg, Malaysia, Malta, Mexico, Netherlands, New Zealand, Norway, Poland, Portugal, Romania, Singapore, Slovakia, Slovenia, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland, Thailand, United Arab Emirates, United Kingdom and United States. India and Indonesia were marked Preview; the five markets above were marked Extended network.
Territories can be treated differently from the country associated with them. Stripe’s territory guidance lists exceptions, so do not infer eligibility merely because a territory is associated with a supported country.
What if your business is outside a standard supported market?
Do not sign up using an invented address or someone else’s bank account. Stripe says opening an account in another country generally requires a legal entity there, a tax ID, a physical location that can receive mail, a phone number, government-issued ID, a working business website and a physical bank account in that country. Stripe documents limited bank-currency exceptions for Canada and many—but not all—European countries.
Read Stripe’s official requirements for opening an account in another country before considering a cross-border company structure. Incorporation creates legal, tax, banking and ongoing compliance obligations; it is not a guaranteed shortcut to approval.
Check these five things before integrating
- Business location: confirm the country where the legal entity is registered and actually operates.
- Business category: review restricted-business rules, not just country availability.
- Verification: check required IDs, company documents, tax information, address and bank account.
- Product features: payment acceptance, subscriptions, Connect/platform use, payouts and local payment methods can have different rules.
- Settlement and fees: confirm payout currencies, settlement bank requirements, conversion and pricing on the country-specific pages.
Which alternatives are worth comparing?
The right alternative depends on the task. For hosted ecommerce, first check Shopify Payments eligibility. For wallet checkout or cross-border customers, check PayPal’s country-specific features. In markets labelled Extended network, Paystack may be a more relevant starting point than assuming standard Stripe onboarding is available. Verify each provider for your exact legal country and business model.
Do not compare a wallet, a payout service and a card processor as if they were interchangeable. A tool that helps you receive a transfer may not provide checkout, recurring billing, refunds or dispute management for an online store.
